Diversified Metal Products, Inc. was established in 1947 by William Gapp Sr. as Novelty Mfg. and subsequently renamed to Chicago Stamping & Manufacturing Co. William was an immigrant tool and die maker of German origin who came to the United States in 1930 via Cuba where he had spent four years installing and maintaining presses for Schuler Pressen.
The company was started in a small facility on the north side of Chicago with an assortment of used manufacturing equipment. As a contract manufacturer the company specialized in the production of various types of metal fabrications.
In 1956 the first ECL Series cup dispenser was designed by William Gapp Sr. and manufactured on behalf of the Sweethart Cup Co. These dispensers were installed in the first McDonald's franchise restaurants ever built. Over one million cup dispensers have been produced for McDonald's.
In 1960 the second generation of the family renamed the company Diversified Metal Products, Inc. to more accurately reflect its capabilities as it had expanded from stampings into the production of complete metal products for a variety of different industries.
Throughout the 1970's and 1980's the company remained a contract metal fabricator producing a variety of products ranging from plate warmers and cup dispensers to large free standing cabinets utilized for the storage of numerical control supplies.
In the late 1980's the third generation entered the family business and in 1993 the DISPENSE-RITE brand was established. It was at this time that we began to further develop and refine our dispensing solutions while we worked to establish a network of foodservice equipment dealers and manufacturers' representatives to help us introduce our products to the marketplace.
Having produced cup dispensers, cone dispensers and other related dispensing products for over 35 years it was this knowledge and expertise that would be the basis for the complete DISPENSE-RITE product line as it exists today.
